Alternative Healing

Stimulating the immune system. Reducing inflammation. Accelerating healing.

Alternative Medicine Alternative medicine strategies can be used to complement traditional Western therapies, in situations when pets cannot tolerate typical treatments, or when pet owners prefer a more natural approach to their pet’s care. Alternative therapies can be particularly useful for managing chronic conditions such as allergies, arthritis, cancer pain, and anxiety.

Traditional Chinese Veterinary Medicine TCVM Traditional Chinese Veterinary Medicine (TCVM) has been adapted from Traditional Chinese Medicine for humans, and uses theories based on the elements, energy, and natural forces. TCVM treatment includes herbal medicine, acupuncture, and diet to correct the body’s disharmony, which is believed to cause disease. Our TCVM practitioners are specially trained and use this type of medicine in conjunction with traditional Western medicine to give your pet the most complete care possible.

Acupuncture

Acupuncture uses tiny needles to stimulate specific points along the body’s meridian lines. In TCVM, acupuncture is used to stimulate or correct the body’s energy, or Qi, flow. Studies show that acupuncture can provide many benefits, including:

  • Reduced pain and inflammation
  • Control of vomiting
  • Appetite stimulation
  • Endocrine disorder improvement

Pets tolerate acupuncture much better than you might expect, and many grow to love their sessions with us!

Integrative Veterinary Medicine

Integrative medicine describes the approach taken when we combine traditional and non-traditional therapies to treat your pet in a more comprehensive way. Integrative medicine is holistic, using nutrition, supplements, and Western and Eastern medicine to heal the pet as a whole. Each type of therapy has strengths and weaknesses, and using them together allows us to fill in the gaps and provide more well-rounded, successful treatment.

Chiropractic Therapy

Like human chiropractic care, spinal adjustments are the mainstay of this therapy, which are used to correct your pet’s body alignment. The gentle, safe adjustments made during chiropractic sessions can lead to improvement in a variety of different conditions, making chiropractic an ideal adjunct therapy for many of our patients.

Cold Laser Therapy

Cold lasers use penetrating wavelengths of light energy to reduce pain and inflammation, and stimulate tissue healing. Our veterinarians may recommend laser therapy sessions following your pet’s surgery or injury, or for chronic pain, to improve your pet’s healing time and outcome.
